Granddaddy Purple Strain Review (GDP)

Granddaddy Purple Strain Review

Granddaddy Purple Strain Review (GDP)

Granddaddy Purple Strain

Factoids:  Grower – Ruby Farms/ Dispensary – Somewhere Dispensary

Indica THC 22.16% CBD 0.01%

Terpenes – Linalool, Humulene and Myrcene

Bud Buzz:  Granddaddy Purple strain is a beautiful and potent cannabis strain that sneaks up you, in a good way. There is about 15% Sativa in this cannabis strain. It’s a perfect amount to keep a good head buzz going but this strain is mostly a body buzz type of high.  With large dense buds that are a muted green mixed with all hues of purple tones and some orange, Granddaddy Purple is dripping with trichomes. Once you break up these huge buds, they are not too sticky and make for easy grinding.  The aroma and taste is similar and you will first notice the earthiness with some sweet berry and very light floral as the undertones.  The smoke from this cannabis strain does linger so plan your smoke session with that in mind.

Buzz Effects

This cannabis strain is somewhat of a creeper weed.  If you smoke a few hits and stay seated you may not notice how high you are until you have to move, speak or really do any type of activity. It’s best to start off slow with this strain until you know how it will affect you.  The first sensations with Granddaddy Purple strain are a chilled and relaxed feeling. Mostly felt as slow moving and almost rhythmic body waves.  The head buzz is slightly euphoric and happy but takes a back seat to the body buzz.  You will feel sleepy with this strain. For some people that feeling hits right away and for others it builds slowly over the course of an hour or two.

It’s not the longest lasting cannabis strain. You can expect your buzz to last about 3 hours or until you fall into a deep blissful sleep, whichever comes first. Can easily become a couch lock cannabis strain unless you stay active and move around.  If you decide to chill on the couch, expect to feel a heaviness to your buzz, in a good way.  It almost feels like the couch is pulling you from within.  A bit strange in terms of sensations but overall very relaxing.  Granddaddy Purple is good for mild to moderate pain, especially muscle pain.  It is also great for stress, anxiety and insomnia.  The negatives are dry mouth and red dry eyes. Eyedrops are a must.

Buzz Enhancers

Drinkables – You will probably want to pre hydrate before your smoke session with water and then move on from there.  As this cannabis strain can be a couch lock one, keep those drink options within easy reach. If you lose motivation to visit the kitchen you can still manage any dry mouth.  If you want to boost your energy during your buzz and hold off sleep for a while, caffeinated drinks are the best way to do it.  Or, if you want something refreshing try a spiced chai with ice, delicious.

Munchables – The munchies will come on fairly quickly, even before 30 minutes and for most people, are intense.  Granddaddy Purple is known for stimulating the appetite so you may want to prepare some snacks before you smoke so that you have easy to reach options.  Cheese dip with chips or pieces of bread are an excellent savory choice.  If you are craving something sweet, a brownie sundae with all the toppings is the way to go!

Doables – Granddaddy Purple strain is a pretty mellow cannabis strain and is best for evening use or on a lazy day when napping is part of the day’s schedule.  For some people this cannabis strain is known to increase feelings of arousal and if you are one of those lucky people, it should be easy to decide how best to spend your buzz.  If this cannabis strain does not get your libido going, then it may be time to relax with a good movie or some music and enjoy your buzz solo.

Godfather OG Strain Review

Godfather OG Strain Review

Godfather OG Strain Review

Godfather OG Strain

Factoids:  Grower – TLO Farms/ Dispensary – The Herb Center

Indica THC 23.20% CBD 0.01%

Terpenes – Myrcene, Caryophyllene and Humulene

Bud Buzz:  Godfather OG strain is a heavy hitting Indica strain that provides a long lasting body high, assuming you stay awake long enough to enjoy the full four hours of stoned happiness.  The buds are dense and muted light green in color, with a lot of orange hairs throughout as well as a ton of icy trichomes.  The buds are not overly sticky so you can grind them easily. The smell and taste are similar, and all about earthy goodness with a hint of pine and the taste has both earthiness and pine with a surprising grape aftertaste.

Buzz Effects

After you smoke just one or two hits the feeling of total and complete body relaxation follows immediately.  Waves of happy contentment wash over you as you ride the beautiful body waves.  This cannabis strain should not be underestimated in terms of potency. Newbies should be careful the first few times as too much Godfather OG can cause dizziness for some stoners.  You will want to be cautious when getting up. Even cannabis connoisseurs may be surprised by the power of this strain.

Godfather OG strain is definitely a couch lock cannabis strain but extreme sleepiness does not come on right away. You can chill for a few hours before falling into a blissful and long night’s sleep.  Another side effect of this cannabis strain is hunger and extreme munchies. It’s great for anyone who suffers from nausea or problems with a poor appetite.  It is an obvious powerful medicine for insomnia. Also great for mild to moderate pain, especial headaches and body aches.  Godfather OG is the perfect strain for stress, anxiety and depression.  Even if you are not a huge Indica fan, this strain is good to have around for those times that you just need to relax and unwind after a stressful day.  The negatives are dry mouth, some dry eye issues and if you smoke too much, dizziness.

Buzz Enhancers

Drinkables – To help with the dry mouth that accompanies Godfather OG, drink some water before you start smoking and keep other liquids close by as the couch lock can be fairly intense, especially the first hour and you may not feel motivated to get yourself something to drink until you are dealing with Sahara like conditions.  Carbonated drinks are really a refreshing choice, so if you are a soda person, grab your favorite kind and if not you can always go with LaCroix or a similar brand.  As this cannabis strain is quite sedative, if you need a caffeine boost, try coffee, tea or an energy drink.

Munchables – The munchies are a big part of a Godfather OG strain high and you can expect to feel those first hunger rumblings after about 30 minutes.  As you will not likely be super motivated to prepare a multi-course meal from scratch, think convenient but relatively healthy. Pasta with some chicken and veggies or just veggies is a great savory option.  Still hungry?  Did you forget to heat up the garlic bread?  If you are craving sweetness, berry pies are a nice way to end a pasta feast or even berries with whipped cream or ice cream, or both!

More Buzz Enhancers

Doables – This cannabis strain is not going to inspire you to go for a hike or practice your new dance moves.  That does not mean you should just lay on the couch until you fall asleep, unless you really want to.  Music and colors are a special companion to this cannabis strain so take advantage of this and listen to some new music, maybe break out those paints or colored pencils and sketch something.  Even watching a movie that has colorful special effects can be an amazing experience.

Purple Punch Strain Review

Purple Punch Strain

Purple Punch Strain Review

Purple Punch Strain

Factoids:  Grower – High Winds Farm/ Dispensary – Pacific Gold Cannabis

Indica THC 25.40% CBD 0.00%

Terpenes- Myrcene, Beta Caryophyllene, Pinene and Limonene

Bud Buzz:  Purple Punch strain is a potent Indica cannabis strain that is even better than it looks, and it looks fantastic.  Huge dense buds that can be slightly sticky when you break them up. So if you are grinding your cannabis, leave it out for an hour or two before putting it in the grinder. This will be just enough to dry it out a little.  The buds are dark green with plenty of purple throughout and frosty trichomes covering nearly the entire top half of each bud.  The smell is pure grape Kool-Aid or if you remember the purple chewy Sweetarts than used to be so popular. Either way it’s a very sweet candy smell and the taste is a slightly earthier version of the smell.  Overall delicious! Purple Punch is a true Indica but it hits more like a hybrid at first.

Buzz Effects

You know the game when someone pretends to crack an egg on the top of your head and you can almost feeling it running down your scalp onto your shoulders and beyond?  No?  It’s a cool trick and you should try it.  If you are familiar with this game, then you will know exactly what to expect from this cannabis strain. You will feel it as an intense head high that slowly spreads down to your body. Leaving you fully relaxed, happy and slightly uplifted but only for the first hour or so, then progressively more and more sleepy.  If you manage to stay awake, you can expect your Purple Punch buzz to last a little over three hours.

For most people, that last hour might be a battle to keep your eyes open and stay awake.  Why fight that urge, this cannabis strain is extremely useful for insomniacs or just anyone that wants a great night sleep. Especially if you have trouble quieting your mind at night so you can fall asleep.  Purple Punch is the absolute perfect strain for this problem.  This cannabis strain is also good for stress, anxiety, depression and mild to moderate pain management.  The negatives are some serious dry mouth and to a lesser degree red dry eyes.

Buzz Enhancers

Drinkables – Purple Punch strain requires some good hydration to keep the dry mouth under control.  Start with plain water and keep sipping that from time to time.  This cannabis strain is a fairly sedative Indica. If you want to feel a bit more alert, add something caffeinated to your drink plan.  Either an energy drink if you really want a boost. Or an iced coffee or tea, hot tea or coffee works too. It just depends on your mood and preference.

Munchables – You will experience the munchies with this cannabis strain and they usually hit pretty quickly about 30 minutes or so after you first smoke.  Unless you want to snack off and on for another hour, choose some sort of protein rich food to start with. You may find you won’t end up overeating, which is very easy to do with Purple Punch.  A veggie omelet is a great way to get some protein and should keep you full longer than straight carbs.  If you need something sweet, you can always make some oatmeal cookies and use dates instead of raisins. This is a game changer taste wise plus the cookies will be nice and chewy.

Doables – Purple Punch is an Indica so you are not going to be running a half marathon and should not expect to feel super motivated to use this time to get your cardio in.  On the other hand, it is not really a couch lock cannabis strain so if you feel like some physical activity, stretching with a few simple yoga poses will feel amazing.  Also amazing is a long soak if you happen to be a bath person, just don’t fall asleep.  The perfect strain for low key gaming and chill talks with close friends or even a movie.  Just don’t choose a 3 hour epic movie because you will likely have to re-watch part since you fell asleep and missed the ending.

Why Cannabis Strain Reviews are Important

cannabis strain reviews

Why Cannabis Strain Reviews are Important

If you have ever read cannabis strain reviews you will know that there are good ones that provide basic information about a strain and there are great ones that go into detail, not just about the strain itself but offer in depth experience about what the strain user might expect, both good and bad, from the strain.  Of course then there are the emoji strain reviews that are entertaining and do say something about the strain but are not especially useful.  There are so many cannabis strains and that number will continue to grow so adding information to be used by both medical cannabis patients as well as recreational users is becoming increasingly essential.

Experience Wanted

If you are a cannabis newbie and want to sample a few new strains, you can jump in, give them a try and more than likely you will have a fantastic time however if you want to be an informed cannabis consumer from that first toke or edible, you will likely want to check out some strain reviews before spending money on any particular strain.  This is true even for cannabis connoisseurs. With each harvest introducing new strains to dispensaries around the US and Canada, you can use your cannabis expertise to write about a new strain, giving your honest thoughts and also any concerns you have about side effects.  Marijuana dispensaries appreciate this type of information as well as other cannabis users.  You certainly don’t have to write a book each time you get high but a good description for new cannabis strain reviews will be welcome information to other stoners and anyone in the industry.

Medical Marijuana Patients

In the US, the recent election ushered in even more states that have legalized medical marijuana and that will likely be the trend with each subsequent election.  As there has not been enough research done on the specifics of treating various diseases and medical conditions with marijuana, if you are a medical marijuana patient, your opinion is extremely valuable.  For example if you use marijuana to treat a condition like migraines and have found an excellent strain or two that provides relief to you, sharing that knowledge can help others who are also migraine sufferers.  Conversely if you have found that a recommended strain did not help your migraine at all, that is also very important information to share.  Each person has a unique chemistry and not every medical marijuana patient will experience identical results however no matter what condition you have that marijuana has helped, you now have the ability to potentially help others with that same condition.

Join the Cannabis Community

No it’s not an official club or anything like that.  If you like cannabis, like getting stoned and the lifestyle in general, why keep it to yourself?  By contributing your knowledge and experience with cannabis strain reviews, you can be part of a larger community, one that is growing every single day.  You may even find you have a talent for describing the effects of cannabis strains and others begin to look forward to your reviews.  You can choose to focus on Indicas, Sativas, hybrids or anything that appeals to you on your next dispensary trip.  Even the most tried and true cannabis strains that have thousands of reviews deserve a fresh look.  Strains can change considerably over time and that once perfect strain that has always been a favorite may not be as good as you remember or the cultivator has changed their grow process, therefore changing how that particular batch hits.  This is useful information you can include in a review so that not only other stoners know, but the dispensary where you got it and the growers as well.  Most cannabis strains improve over time however that is not always the case and a thorough review will benefit so many people, not to mention save stoners money, which is just good stoner etiquette.

Death Star Strain Review

Death Star Strain Review

Death Star Strain Review

Death Star Strain

Factoids:  Grower-Essentials/ Dispensary-Greenery Marijuana Delivery

Indica Dominant Hybrid THC 22.88% CBD 0.00%

Terpenes-   Caryophyllene, Myrcene and Limonene

Bud Buzz: Death Star strain is a very relaxing Indica hybrid that smells just like cannabis of yore.  Meaning if you are concerned about your smoke spot smelling like skunky weed, prepare some way to vent the smell because this is super skunky, with a little pine and diesel thrown in for good measure.

The taste is all spicy earth with a hint of diesel.  Yes it does not sound great but it is!  Death Star does take a minute to start feeling those amazing body waves so give it at least 10 minutes before continuing to toke up or you may end up higher than you planned or want to be.  Which is not necessarily a bad thing, just worth knowing.

Once the body waves take over you will also notice some head buzz and feelings of intense happiness and relaxation.  You may feel inspired to binge watch not only the Star Wars series but really any decent space flick. This cannabis strain starts off slow but builds and lasts well past the four hour mark, if you are still awake that is so it’s perfect for a super chill afternoon or night cannabis session.

Death Star is great for mild to moderate pain relief, especially headaches.  It also works wonders for depression, anxiety and insomnia. All that greatness does come with some negatives, the dry mouth is a definite issue and dry eyes are manageable but drops should be handy.

Buzz Enhancers

Drinkables– You are going to need plenty of liquids with this cannabis strain.  Death Star strain does cause serious dry mouth.  It’s worth it of course, you just have to manage the problem.  Have plain water around for sipping plus some juices, pineapple or if you can find it mango juice is a good way to tackle the issue.  In addition to liquids, try sucking on some hard candy from time to time as many of them, like Jolly Ranchers, kick your salivary glands into overdrive, which is exactly what you want.

Munchables– You are going to get the munchies and they will come on hard at about the hour mark so stock up because you will not feel like taking a trip outside, unless it’s to star gaze.  You did just smoke Death Star after all so it’s only fitting. You can also order delivery and if possible mix it up a little with some spicy food and some go to favorite comfort foods like mac and cheese or biscuits and gravy.  To satisfy sweet cravings, cake is the way to go.  Chocolate hits the spot but really any moist cake with lots of frosting is perfection!

Doables– This is a pretty heavily Indica dominant cannabis strain so you may not feel like a long hike but a short walk is not out of the question.  Couch lock is not really likely but if you find yourself planning a movie marathon, go with it.  Death Star strain is ideal for hanging out with a few close friends, and watching some really cool movies with special effects.  You will not regret this choice!

Banana Puddintain Strain Review

Banana Puddintain Strain Factoids:  Grower-7 Points Oregon/ Dispensary-Oregon’s Finest

Indica THC 25.19% CBD 0.08%

Terpenes- Caryophyllene and Myrcene

Bud Buzz: This is a super clean and potent Indica strain of cannabis.  Clean in that the grower, 7 Points Oregon, which is an indoor cultivator near Portland Oregon uses a green growing method they describe as Veganics which utilizes only plant based nutrients and compost teas as part of the grow process.  They describe the products as clean smelling and tasting and they’re not wrong.

This delicious smelling bud is a bit like bananas but not as heavy and the buds are beautiful, dense and colorful with some brilliant shades of purple mixed in with the varying greens. This is a flexible Indica strain in that you can smoke just a little and experience a relaxing body high with a touch of head buzz but nothing too intense.  Just happy and slightly euphoric.  Smoke a little more banana puddintain strain and those feelings intensify, especially the body waves.

A great strain for managing mild to moderate pain of any kind and will definitely help with anxiety, stress and insomnia.  The THC percentage is relatively high but the numbers don’t tell the whole story.  If you really want an intense body high, this is the strain for you.  After 4 good bong hits. You will be feeling no pain.  So probably a good escapist cannabis strain in addition to its other benefits. Some dry mouth that gets worse as time passes so keep that in mind.  No other negative side effects.

Buzz Enhancers

Drinkables– Banana Puddintain strain does leave you with some dry mouth so make sure you keep some plain or carbonated water around for sipping.  If you need something with flavor you can go with a LaCroix or a similar drink.  Stay far away from alcohol unless your only plan is to get stupid drunk.  You might even consider a bit of caffeine in your beverage selection like a cold brew if you want something cold or a hot tea.

Munchables– One of the many benefits of this cannabis strain is its ability to quell nausea so even if you are feeling a little sick to your stomach before you consume it, you won’t feel that way for long and soon enough, the munchies will come calling.  How you answer is up to you but as they are not “must eat the entire contents of the fridge” type of munchies you can afford to be selective.  Cheese and crackers are a perfect choice, add some grapes or olives into the mix and fill your sweet and savory cravings all at once.

Doables– Honestly you are not going to feel like doing too much with this particular strain.  It’s a real Indica and that means your main goal will be to achieve the perfect state of chillness, which good news, can be easily accomplished.  If you only consume a little you may be inspired to get creative and paint or draw but if you smoke a little more your couch or bed will be calling your name, loudly.

Attack of the Double Decker PP&J Sandwich

Indica and Munchies

I love a good Indica at night.  There is nothing more relaxing than, especially when the weather is chilly than to smoke a few good bowls at night, curl up with in bed under piles of blankets and feel those body waves hit.  The perfect fall or winter cannabis experience in my opinion.  As with most people who consume Indica strains on a regular basis, the battle of the munchies is a real one.  Indica and munchies just go hand in hand. You can try and fight it, but I rarely win that battle so my new goal was to slowly wean myself away from late night pizza and move towards something slightly healthier.  Baby steps though, I was not about to become a late night kale eater.

I had several excellent Indica strains around and decided that night would be a mix up between two of my favorites.  A little northern lights plus a little 9 LB Hammer and I was getting pretty stoned.  Maybe just one more bowl of my new nighttime mix and then it was time to crawl under the covers and see what I could find to watch on TV that was at all entertaining.  I struggle, when really stoned, of getting into a pattern of mindless channel changing so I was happy I found something that could hold my interest, a new episode of Homeland had just come out.  Yea!  Now I just needed something to drink and a “healthy” snack and my perfect night would be complete.

A trip to the kitchen and as I scanned the refrigerator for healthy options, nothing looked good.  Clearly the last time I had been grocery shopping I had not consumed cannabis beforehand or there would be better snacks.  I did have whole-wheat bread and peanut butter was kind of healthy right?  Sure it is.  Plus some yummy Cascadia Farms strawberry jam, okay its pure sugar but baby steps, remember.  Why settle for a single sandwich when you can go big and make a double decker one.  Indica and munchies were working their magic. After using nearly half a jar of peanut butter and not nearly as much jam, gotta watch that sugar intake, I had myself a beautiful tall pile of deliciousness to enjoy with a giant glass of milk.  I settled back into bed and started watching TV.

I remember a dream, I think.  I was trying to make my way through a weird yellow jungle but no matter what I did I could not get through.  Strange animals were sending me warning calls, I tried to answer but could not.  I was sweating it was so hot in that yellow jungle. I woke up and it was still dark in my bedroom so I rolled over to try and get comfortable so I could drift off again.  I remember smelling peanut butter but was too tired to think beyond that fleeting moment.

It was morning, my alarm was buzzing and I opened my eyes to a completely new feeling.  Apparently my cannabis Indica session has resulted in an attack during the night.  That double decker PB & J sandwich had beat the shit out of me!  Peanut butter was everywhere, literally everywhere.  In my eyes, hair, apparently I had rolled onto my sandwich and we must have done battle all night.  That sandwich beat me hands down.  The bread, not a concern when you have peanut butter in your ear.  I spent the next hour showering and cleaning up.  Those sheets had a new design, even after I washed them twice.  I like to call it “fall leaves” because there are spots of red from the jam and kind of brownish yellow from the peanut butter.  It’s a look, don’t judge. Indica and munchies had won again.

So the next time I decide to have a full on Indica mix session, I plan to choose my munchies so that it complements the new pattern of my sheets.  Or perhaps I should sick with one bowl, maybe a Sativa for good measure.  Cannabis and the munchies go hand in hand, especially with Indica strains but I would like to think I learned something that night.  If ever I find myself in a thick yellow jungle, don’t listen to those strange unhelpful animals, run towards water or at least a nice milk pond.

Champagne Cake Strain Review

Champagne Cake Strain Review

Champagne Cake Strain Review

Champagne Cake Strain

Factoids:  Grower-Lucky Lion/ Dispensary-Chalice Farms

Hybrid THC 25.96% CBD 0.00%

Terpenes– Linalool and Caryophyllene

Bud Buzz: This champagne cake strain review is for cannabis enthusiasts who like balanced hybrids.  Champagne Cake is a fairly balanced hybrid, it starts out as more of a Sativa but finishes like an Indica.  It is the perfect strain if you want to get things done for an hour or two but then want to chill out or even sleep later on in your buzz.

The head high comes first but it’s not too intense.  You can really focus with this strain, at least until the body high gets going and then you can still focus, you just may not want to.  The smell and taste is a little spicy with a touch of diesel but not overpowering.

A great strain for managing anxiety, especially social anxiety as it calms you but you still feel like talking which is a bonus. A few negatives include both dry mouth and a little bit of dry eyes, so break out those soothing eye drops, it’s worth it.

Buzz Enhancers

Drinkables– You can break down your drink options to match your buzz with this cannabis strain.  The first Sativa like buzz needs clear cold liquids to quench that thirst and deal with dry mouth.  Water or a clear soda will do the job.  Once you hit the more Indica side of things after about two hours, warm liquids are where it’s at.  Hot chocolate or tea are both excellent choices.  If you want to put a little whiskey in your tea, no one is stopping you!

Munchables-The munchies really didn’t hit until the Indica part of the buzz. Once you are all settled in and relaxed, maybe some fruit and nuts, mixing sweet and salty is the way to go.  Chocolate covered pretzels should be in every stoners home and they are perfect with this cannabis strain.

Doables-Champagne Cake is a duel experience and your activities will probably reflect that.  The first hour or so you can do something that requires mental focus.  You can get some work done if you must, get creative and write or draw something spectacular.  If you are feeling like some physical activity keep it low key, maybe a walk around the neighborhood to take in the sweet smell of autumn.

If you like games or gaming generally this is a great strain for that.  Once the Indica second half kicks in, you can hang out with friends and watch something cool or listen to music, just enjoy being perfectly relaxed.

Drinkable Cannabis Reviews: Hibiscus Lemonade & Berry Shot

Hibiscus Lemonade Cannabis Drinkable Review

Cannabis edibles continue to grow in variety and popularity in just about every place that has medical or recreational dispensaries.  The area of edibles that is still pretty new is that of cannabis drinks.  It’s always nice to have options no matter how you choose to consume your cannabis and drinks sometimes are a fun and novel way to try cannabis.  Plus you are also getting some hydration at the same time so that’s a bonus.  The quality and variety differs from state to state and even among dispensaries in a single city but the one thing that seems to be constant is the price. Cannabis drinks are fairly pricey compared to other edibles and definitely compared to flower, cats or concentrates but that does not mean drinks are not worth a try or even worth the cost.  Like most things, if demand increases and dispensaries start offering more options for drinks, prices will come down.  So if you try a cannabis drink from your local dispensary that you really like, let them know.  Also, as with edibles in general, pay attention to the dosage.  The common wisdom is to start with 5-10 mgs and wait at least 30 minutes before consuming more.  If you know you have a high tolerance, obviously your starting point will be much higher, pun intended, at around 50-100 mgs. Here are a Hibiscus Lemonade cannabis drinkable review and Berry Shot cannabis drinkable review.

Hibiscus Lemonade Cannabis Drinkable Review

Factoids: Manufacturer-Muru Highwater /Dispensary-Chalice Farms

Hybrid 50 mg THC 2 fluid ounces per bottle/each serving contains 5 mg THC (approximately two capfuls) 10 servings per bottle

Terpenes-Unknown

Buzz:  This is an infused water so the taste was stronger than expected with typical, non-cannabis infused water.  You can taste the lemon but the actual taste is more like lime.  You can also taste what might be hibiscus but is a bit like Ricola cough drops, the brown ones.  Overall the taste is good but not super refreshing and you will get a bit of an after taste similar to apple cider vinegar.  Not for those who want to sip their cannabis.  This should probably be done like a shot.  The effects come on slowly and are fairly balanced between a head and body high.  If after 30 minutes you are not feeling much, either try another capful, or two or simply wait a bit longer.  You will notice the body relaxation but it is not so strong that you will be couch locked.  The head high is there but plays second to the body high so this would probably be good for stress and if you have sore muscles could help ease the soreness. Overall the high is not super intense with this cannabis infused water which makes it great for a novice and something new and different for the cannabis connoisseur.

Drinkables-You are definitely going to need to keep something to drink handy, not because of dry mouth but because the aftertaste does linger.  Normal water won’t help, you need flavor so go with your favorite soda or even a flavored water if you don’t want the caffeine.

Munchables-The munchies will likely not be an issue with this Hibiscus Lemonade but that doesn’t mean you can’t eat something anyway.  Salty foods seem to go best, so perhaps some chips or pretzels just something light to snack on.  Tortilla chips and salsa are perfect and if you want a more substantive snack, go with nachos because…cheese!

Doables-Drinking your cannabis is an interesting way to consume it so why not do something interesting.  You will not be super stoned or couch locked so go exploring.  Walk through a new neighborhood in your city or if you are close to some beautiful nature, take advantage of that.  Just enjoy the mellow happiness of being stoned and outside.

Berry Shot Cannabis Drinkable Review

Factoids: Manufacturer-Enjoy/ Dispensary-Chalice Farms

Indica 50 mg THC 2 fluid ounces per bottle/each serving contains 5 mg THC (approximately two capfuls) 10 servings per bottle

Terpenes-Unknown

Buzz: This Enjoy Berry Shot was a surprise.  Not because it was an Indica that allows for an amazing night of restful sleep but because of how you feel before you actually fall asleep.  Start with a two capful dose but if after 30 minutes you are not feeling much, feel free to add two more capfuls.  This cannabis liquid is slightly thick in texture, which some people might be bothered by.  If you prefer your liquids more liquid then mix it into some tea or carbonated water.  The taste and smell is like berries, which berries is a difficult to determine.  It tastes more like raspberries than any other berry.  Berry shot is super sweet so mixing it with an unsweetened tea is the way to go!  There is not much of a head high but the body high starts slowly and builds to such a relaxing mellow feeling of being happy and content.  Good for those with insomnia and could even help with mild pain and stress.  The most unexpected part?  After about an hour you may start to feel a little, let’s just say amorous.  Something to consider if you decide not to go to sleep right away.  Either way expect a sweet slumber with Berry Shot.

Drinkables-Tea, either green or black is the best thing to drink with Berry Shot and afterwards as well.  If you want another type of liquid and you drink alcohol, a glass of wine or something with bubbles will work perfectly for a cannabis beverage.  Just don’t drink too much or it will interfere with your sleep.

Munchables– By getting your cannabis in a liquid form rather than a food edible, that opens the door to all snack options.  If you are feeling the berry theme, you could go with some strawberries, or even better chocolate covered strawberries.  You would need to plan ahead for that type of snack.  Generally sweets work will and chocolate is just perfection!

Doables– This liquid cannabis does not leave you couch locked in a serious way but you will likely not feel like a hike either.  If you want to enjoy that deep relaxation with a movie or a podcast, great choice.  As mentioned before, Berry Shot can leave you feeling amorous so …take it from here!

Blackberry Octane Strain Review

Blackberry Octane Strain

Factoids:  Grower – Pruf Cultivar/ Dispensary – Electric Lettuce

Indica THC 29.05% CBD 0.04%

Terpenes- Myrcene, Limonene and Caryophyllene

Bud Buzz: This cannabis strain is the ultimate Indica.  Sweet smelling and tasting, the aftertaste is a little bit like fuel, thus the name octane.  Touted as the ultimate couch lock experience, Blackberry Octane strain does not disappoint. The body high comes on immediately after the first hit and builds pretty quickly to an all over feeling of euphoria.

This cannabis strain is not for those wake n’ bakers unless the only thing you have planned for the rest of your morning is a nap.  This particular strain has a high THC percentage so go slow even if you have a relatively high tolerance.  Not a super social strain, this one is excellent for pain relief, anxiety and stress literally melt away which are all good things.  The negatives are its strong and if you are looking for a lighter Indica to ease into your evening, this one is not it.  Two or three bong hits should be plenty but start with one.  The other downside is the dry mouth and a little bit of dry eyes.  Overall though, the Blackberry Octane strain is the ultimate escape into either blissful sleep or blissful chillness.

Drinkables– because of the dry mouth associated with this cannabis strain, liquids are vital.  If you want to create a bit more of an uplifting effect, go with coffee or black tea.  Otherwise stick with any clear liquid you like, water is always good but for those who like some carbonation LaCroix seems to really hit the spot.  Just stay hydrated because you will find yourself so relaxed you may forget to sip on some liquids from time to time.

Munchables-the munchies come on after about an hour but are not super intense, meaning you don’t feel like eating the entire contents of your fridge.  Go with savory but not too salty snacks to start, maybe some creamy mac and cheese.  It’s easy to mindlessly eat once you get started so keep that in mind and only make a certain amount, you won’t feel like making anything overly complicated anyway.  If sweet snacks are your thing, think brownies or something creamy like cheesecake.

Doables-sometimes with certain cannabis strains you just want to feel that all-encompassing high without really doing too much.  This is one of those strains.  Blackberry Octane is not going to motivate you to take on any major projects, creative or otherwise.  Sure you could rearrange your cabinets while waiting for the mac and cheese to finish but for the most part, just sit back and relax and enjoy the feeling of being euphorically stoned!

Cannabis Habits – Why You Should Change Yours

Cannabis Habits

People tend to be creatures of habit.  Some of those habits serve us well, a daily walk, a morning cup of coffee, an evening meditation, even your cannabis habits.  All great habits however even the best of habits can use a little shaking up from time to time.  This is definitely true for cannabis consumption.  The same glass bowl of the same strain at the same time every day may start to lose its excitement or effectiveness after a while.  Just as there are multiple routes you can take on your morning walk, there are so many ways to consume cannabis that changing your routine may just open the door to some new discoveries about yourself and how cannabis can be a useful part of your life.

If you want to do some cannabis exploration, start with a trip, not that kind of tip, down memory lane.  Why do you use cannabis?  Every person will have a different answer to this question and for many people, there are multiple reasons.  Some use cannabis to alleviate pain, stress or to treat any number of other medical conditions.  Some use it in a strictly recreational way and so many use it for all of the above.  No matter your reasons, changing the way you use cannabis can change your life.

Change Your Cannabinoid Ratio

If you use medical marijuana with a high CBD percentage to treat a medical condition, try asking your budtender for a different percentage.  For example if you are using a 1:2 THC:CBD ratio, how would a 1:1 ration affect your medical condition?  You can always go back to the old ratio if you’re not happy with the results.  You may find that a little more THC produces additional benefits and continues to treat your medical condition.  Win, Win!  For those recreational users who are searching for the highest THC strains they can find, do they live up to the hype?  In some cases they do but not always and just because a strain of marijuana has a high THC percentage does not mean your unique body chemistry will experience the full effects.  Try a mid-range THC strain, say around 18-20% rather than the sought after 30% plus strain and see how you like it.  Dispensaries that offer half gram joints are an excellent way to experiment a little with varying THC percentages without a serious financial commitment.  You may be pleasantly surprised at the results of changing the THC percentage.  Up is not always the right direction for everyone and the same goes for your cannabis habits.

Consider Changing the Type of Cannabis Strain

You’ve no doubt heard people say they only smoke Indica.  You yourself might really prefer a good Sativa.  Perhaps you like a perfectly balanced hybrid.  Regardless of your preferences, new strains are showing up in dispensaries every day and if you refuse to give new cannabis strains a try because it is a Sativa and you only use Indicas, you are likely going to miss out on some serious cannabis bliss. Again a good budtender can advise you on a somewhat mellow Sativa if you have been solely using an Indica strain to relax at the end of the day.  Conversely, an upbeat Indica can take the place of a mid-afternoon Sativa.  If you don’t have access to a wise budtender, use your own previous experiences with marijuana as a general guide.  If you’re looking to make a change, do it on a lazy day that you don’t have a bunch of obligations so if that Indica was a little more sleep inducing that you expected, a nap fits into your schedule.  If that evening Sativa is not as relaxing as you had hoped, you don’t have to be up at 6 am for a 7 am meeting.  Just a bit of planning ahead can make all the difference to your ultimate experience.

Timing is Everything

For all the wake and bakers out there, this is going to be tough but think about starting your day without a few good bong rips and instead some coffee and a walk. Your cannabis habits are part of your routine, I know. Wait until after lunch to take your first dab of the day.  Why not!  This is all about shaking up your routine and seeing if a change in your cannabis habits is a good thing.  Don’t worry, you can always go back to the pre-dawn bong.  The idea is your experience with cannabis will be slightly different if you change the time or times that you normally use it.  For those who rely on a late evening session to help ease them into sleep, changing that might seem impossible but it’s doable.  You may even discover that you sleep better if you have your usual nightly session a few hours earlier.  It’s all about being flexible with when you use cannabis and varying your daily routine.  You could end up liking the changes so much, they become a new part of your cannabis use.

The History of Cannabis – It’s Been Around a Long Time

history of cannabis

The history of cannabis is a long one. Cannabis is thought of as among the first cultivated plants in human history, with some estimates placing its first cultivation over 30,000 years back. For centuries, sativa plants were cultivated for their use as food and fiber, used by ancient peoples for clothes, rope, paper and a lot more. Indica plants found use across southeast Asia as religious enhancers, and were popular for spiritual rituals and recreation. Cannabis eventually traveled around the world, and is mentioned in numerous historical records from Ancient China, Germanic tribes, the Celts and Africa. Its health uses throughout early history contained analgesia, childbirth painkiller, in addition to treatment for migraines, indigestion and insomnia.

Some of the oldest known records of cannabis use exist in East Asia because of the ancient advanced civilizations that inhabited the regions, together with the cultural significance placed upon herbal remedies. Despite cannabis’ birthplace being the Hindu Kush mountain region of Pakistan, it seems the first individuals to cultivate the plant brought it via modern day Kashmir to India, and either via trade or farming in western Tibet, or possibly a mixture of both, it was introduced into the peoples of China and spread around East Asian civilizations.

The earliest known use in the history of cannabis comes from a Japanese grave on the Oki Islands dating back to 8000 BCE, where cannabis residue was discovered alongside the deceased, apparently because of its cultural importance. Cannabis use in pre-Neolithic Japanese culture because of its use in fibers, food and possibly a psychoactive spiritual aid proved rather prevalent. For thousands of years later, it had been used heavily in mainland China as well, even earning its place on Yangshao culture pottery dating to approximately 4500 BCE. Korean civilization utilized the plant for cloth also, and has been traced back to at least 3000 BCE. Chinese Emperor Shennong, “The Red Emperor,” wrote about cannabis in 2727 BCE in what is known as the first pharmacopeia, Shennong Bencao Jing, or “The Classic of Herbal Medicine.” Shennong makes reference to cannabis as a staple crop of Asian culture, and provides instructions on grinding cannabis roots down to a paste for pain relief. The influence of the herb in ancient China is still seen to this day at the Chinese character for cannabis, 麻 or”má.” The emblem shows two cannabis plants under a shelter, and may be traced back to 1000 BCE in ancient Taiwan.

In ancient India, cannabis was known as ganja, or गञ्जा in Sanskrit. Cannabis indica was used extensively throughout Indian history for spiritual and industrial uses. Another historical herb referenced in Indian antiquity around 1000 BCE is called bhanga, it is possible this was intended to be bhang, an edible preparation of cannabis that first appeared around the same time. It is also suggested that the early drug called soma mentioned in the Vedas was also cannabis. Cannabis was found in archaeological Ayurvedic mixtures in India relationship to about 400 BCE as well, mostly, used to treat headaches.

The early Aryans, an ethnic group of Indo-Iranian men and women who migrated from Aryavarta from the Indus Valley to the Ural mountains of eastern Europe, were first to introduce the cultivation of cannabis into the Assyrians of Mesopotamia around 3200 BCE, who started calling the herb qunubu, or “a method to generate smoke.” While migrating, Aryans spread their favorite herb into the Scythians of Eastern Iran, the Thracians of Southeastern Europe and the Dacians across the Black Sea, all which started utilizing cannabis sativa heavily also. These civilizations shared the kapnobatai, highly revered ritualistic shaman whose name means”people who walk on clouds.” These religious leaders burnt cannabis flowers to induce a trance for rituals. Circa 700 BCE, a Caucasian shaman was buried at the Yanghai Tombs near Turpan in China with a huge cache of cannabis sativa showing distinct signs of domestication, suggesting this soothsayer had traveled from Eurasia to China so as to spread his sacred herb, possibly coming from the Aryan civilization that had introduced it to many different cultures before him. Phytochemical analysis showed preserved THC, one of a number of other phytocannabinoids still staying in the early plant. Herodotus goes on to comment around 440 BCE the people of Scythia, in addition to numerous cultures surrounding the Mediterranean, were fond of inhaling the vapors of hemp-seed smoke in steam baths, both in significant rituals and as pleasurable diversion included in their history of cannabis.

The Assyrians’ usage of this herb in the Middle East turned into a traditional haven for cannabis, and its cultivation rapidly spread to surrounding lands and areas, such as the Egyptians and Persians, in addition to their successors in modern-day Iraq. An Egyptian mummy dating to about 1070 BCE was surprisingly found to still have trace amounts of THC out of hashish in its hairs, bones and soft tissues because of its preservation. The amount bound in fat cells was up of 4100 nanograms, almost 4 times the amount found in modern-day German’s in treatment for cannabis dependence. The Egyptians were not the only ones, however, since the budding Semitic people of Arabia started to provide the herb religious significance also. Biblical scholars insist that the”sacred herb” commonly referenced in numerous Bible verses and books is the cannabis plant itself, as it was a common crop in the area and its psychotropic properties were known. This is further supported by the fact that a part of the holy anointing oil in the Bible is known as kaneh-bosem based on Exodus 30:22-30, a derivative of which would become qannabōs, the precursor word to cannabis. Hindus, Shintos, Buddhists, Coptic Christians, Sufis, Essenes, Zoroastrians, Bantus, Jews and Rastafarians, are just some to believe cannabis has significant religious value.
