Jay-Z is Putting the Finishing Touches on a Very Specialized Cannabis Line 

Jay-Z has been working with the California based cannabis company Caliva since last year as the brand’s chief brand strategist.  Jay-Z surely had a lot of useful insights to offer as he knows branding better than almost anyone.  In addition to that role, Jay-Z announced that he has been working hard on his own cannabis line called Monogram.  Jay-Z wants to make sure that each customer feels special and has gone to great lengths to make that happen.  Monogram wants to redefine what cannabis means to consumers and take it to a much more personalized level than ever before.  Each cannabis strain will be carefully selected and the cultivation process as well as the quality of the bud will be the best quality out there. According to the company’s website each individual cannabis plant will be given personalized attention.  Jay-Z’s announcement regarding Monogram was done in a big way with the launch of the website and Instagram account complete with a playlist on his streaming platform Tidal called Monogram: Sounds from the Grow Room featuring many artists including Bob Marley and Amy Winehouse.  Jay-Z also intends to use his considerable resources and celebrity to continue his work in social justice causes including working to ensure those who have been previously convicted of cannabis related crimes receive justice. Kansas City Area Dispensary Sold Out of Cannabis in Less than Two Days and Other Missouri Growing Pains   

The Fresh Green, a medical marijuana dispensary that opened in Lee’s Summit near Kansas City Missouri was completely sold out of cannabis in less than two days. The shop sold medical marijuana to approximately 500 patients before running out according to Bianca Sullivan who owns the cannabis dispensary with her husband.  She observed that the lines were consistent since before their doors opened for business and that the average wait time was between 90 minutes and two hours.  Ms. Sullivan also noticed something else that really surprised her, the average age of their customers was 51 years old with 18 patients being over the age of 70 and only 8 patients between 18 and 21 years old.  The dispensary is waiting for a fresh supply of cannabis from their grower in the St. Louis area within the next week so for now people in the Kansas City area will need to be patient.  Other issues that have come up as Missouri works to ensure that all medical marijuana patients have access to their medicine are high prices and some questionable product quality.  With so few dispensaries open and with a limited supply of cannabis on hand, prices are high, about $60 for an eighth of an ounce which is far higher than other states but that will change as more dispensaries open and more cannabis becomes available.  The other troubling issue came from a patient in the St. Louis area who complained they were sold moldy marijuana.  That complaint is being investigated and the findings will be announced as soon as possible.  Check out additional details here.

Cannabliss Employees Become First in Washington DC to Unionize 

Workers at Cannabliss voted unanimously to ratify a collective bargaining agreement with United Food and Commercial Workers International (UFCW) Local 400.  This 5 year pact covers 13 employees in the only 100 % Black owned and operated dispensary in the DC area. The contract offers Cannabliss employees higher pay, paid time off, paid holidays, a retirement plan, additional accredited training and health care insurance.  Additionally the contract offers time off to vote, pay increases every six months as well as annual cost of living increases and protection from unjust discipline or termination.  A step in the right direction for cannabis industry workers and according to UFCW, just the beginning of a trend in the industry.  UFCW currently represents over 10, 000 cannabis industry employees nationwide and that number is growing every day.  As the cannabis industry is relatively new and expanding quickly it is important to set high standards for compensation and comprehensive benefits.  Read more here.
